What Is Marshmallow?

Archives

Marshmallow is not just a sweet treat, it is also used in herbal medicine.

Marshmallow root has a distinguished and longstanding history for use in herbal medicine. The ancient Greeks were the first to write about the medicinal properties of the herb, which continues to be used for its demulcent properties, helping to coat and soothe sore throats, as well as being used to reduce inflammation. It has even been known to treat wounds. Throughout history, marshmallow root has been used by many cultures for its medicinal properties and is still being used today by herbalists throughout the world.

We have added this fantastic little root to our Healthipop Throat Soother and Ear Popper Stopper for its soothing properties.

Fun Fact:

Traditional marshmallows were made with marshmallow root powder, sugar and eggs whites. Whereas today’s commercial soft squishy, squidgy treats no longer use marshmallow root, instead they now use gelatine (vegan alternatives are available). However, the name Marshmallows stayed!

They are great to add to hot chocolate or roast on a stick over an open fire! For an added treat, why not wedge one between two digestives (or any other makes of biscuit!) Yum! But I’m afraid you can’t roast our Healthipops.
